FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does the treatment work?

Platelets contain a high content of “growth factors” – proteins that help to heal injured tissue or
damaged skin. Studies have shown this technique to be highly effective in the treatment of skin
wounds, particularly burns. Upon injection into the skin, platelets release their growth factors which
trigger surrounding cells to proliferate, in turn stimulating repair, increasing volume and
rejuvenating the skin.

Most importantly, the growth factors contained in the plasma boost collagen production – the
stimulation of collagen production results in new skin cells being formed and therefore an
improvement in skin elasticity. Ultimately this creates a tightening effect on the treated area and
enables patients to achieve a more beautiful, youthful skin. PRP Injections are injected below the
surface of the skin in the area of fat loss and/or wrinkles and provides a gradual increase in skin
thickness. Visible results appear after the first treatment session but the activity of the stem cells in
the plasma continues working for about 3 months after treatment.

What areas can be treated?

Vampire Facelift treatment can be performed on the face, neck, hands and all over the body with
excellent results: skin is re-plumped and rejuvenated; fine lines and wrinkles are reduced and skin
contours are redefined to create a youthful, radiant glow. It is hugely successful in the treatment of
areas such as:
 Upper and lower eye area
 Fine lines and wrinkles
 Ageing and sagging skin
 Acne scars
 Neck & décolletage
 Thinning hair

Are PRP injections safe?

Vampire Facelift treatment is the safest non-invasive procedure available on the market today because you are using cells from your own body therefore there can be no allergic reaction.

How many treatments are required?

Most clients will require a course of 3 Platelet Rich Plasma treatments depending on area and condition being treatment. Treatments normally occur at 6-8 week intervals.

Are the results Vampire Facial treatments immediate?

At your first treatment visit, it may appear that the treatment worked immediately because of
swelling from the watery ingredients of your plasma. In a few days, when the swelling goes down
and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Platelet
Rich Plasma treatment takes time to gradually correct the texture and lines in your skin and results
can be visible from 6-12 weeks after treatment. A course of treatments will be recommended over
12 months for optimum results.

How long do treatment results last?

Following a course of PRP injections results will typically last up to 1 year after the first treatment
session in most clients. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect
depending on the extent of ageing and skin concerns.

Does the treatment hurt?
Prior to your Vampire Facial, the skin is numbed with a topical anesthetic and plasma is then injected into the epidermis and dermis – you may experience a sensation of tiny pin pricks and stinging sensations which will subside after a few minutes. Treatment is quick and very tolerable.

What can I expect to happen at a treatment session?

Dr. Amar will take 10 to 20 milliliters of blood. The area where the injections will be given will be cleaned with an antiseptic, and a local anesthetic will be applied on areas where injections will be made. Once the platelets are prepared they will be injected to your skin in small amounts using a very fine needle. Multiple injections will be needed.

How long does the treatment take?

Prior to treatment topical anesthetic cream will be applied for 30-40 minutes. Treatment times
ranges from 40-60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

What can I expect after treatment?

Slight swelling may be experienced but this will usually resolve in 24-72 hours. In cases where
patients are prone to bruising easily, slight bruising may be evident, but as with any other filler, this
is easily covered with make-up. Dr. Amar will give you specific post-treatment care instructions.

How quickly can I get back to my daily activities?

Most clients feel comfortable going back to their normal activities immediately and back to work the
following day.

Can Platelet Rich Plasma treatment be used in combination with other skin treatments?

Yes, the Vampire Facelift used in combination with Medical Microneedling and Dermal Fillers has shown amazing results.

How does it work?

Platelets contain an abundance of growth factors (such of PDGF, TGF, VEGF, EGF, FGF, CTGF), which are crucial for tissue rebuilding and repair. It also contains molecules important for cell migration and proliferation, along with numerous cytokines, anti-microbial peptides, and anti-inflammatory molecules, all to assist with a variety of aesthetic concerns, such as facial rejuvenation and hair loss!

For Hair Loss: It acts by a variety of mechanisms, including enhancing proliferation and survival of hair follicles. It also acts to increase blood flow to your hair follicles, bringing more nutrients.

How long does it take?

It takes about 30-45 minutes. It takes 5-10 minutes to draw blood, another 10 minutes to spin out the other cells, and 10-15 minutes for injections.

How often should I come in?

To begin with, I recommend 3 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart to boost hair growth.
Maintenance spaced out every 6-8 weeks or quarterly can be done thereafter, depending on your needs.

What should you expect with treatment?
For hair loss: we typically do not pretreat with numbing medication, as the injections are quick! If you are not having any laser resurfacing or microneedling performed at the same visit, I usually apply any left over liquid gold over your scalp.

What is the recovery process like?

Recovery time is variable, but most take a few days. Expect mild tension and pressure from the injection sites. You will experience mild tightness and a mild headache. It is okay to use Arnica.
You should not expect any “down” time, as you should be able to resume or normal activities.
Of note, it is okay for mild exercise (such as walking), but I would avoid any strenuous exertion or inversions for the first 24 hours.
